Glucosamine and Chondroitin, Really Help Reducing Joint Pain?

Glucosamine and Chondroitin are common ingredients in supplements for joint pain, specially people with osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis occurs as cartilage breaks down and it leads pain. Millions of American people have osteoarthritis.

According to Web MD, scientists have been researching benefits of glucosamine alone and together with another supplement called chondroitin for many years, but research results have been conflicting.

Some studies show the supplement reduces knee pain in people with moderate-to-severe osteoarthritis. However, it doesn’t seem to work as well in people who have mild knee pain, have had the condition for long time. Also, Glucosamine was not working for overweight patients with osteoarthritis.

What is Pain?

“If the channels are free there is no pain: if the channels are obstructed there is pain.”

According to Asian medicine, pain can be caused by either a Full or an Empty condition. The Full or Empty character of pain should always be ascertained, especially in relation to pain experienced in the head, chest or abdomen. In general pain from a Full condition is more intense and sharper than that from an Empty condition, which tends to be dull and much less intense.

Pain management is important for ongoing pain control, specially if you suffer with long-term or chronic pain. After getting a pain assessment, I can formulate herbs or other pain treatments for pain relief.

Chronic pain such as headache, adhesive capsulitis(frozen shoulder), back pain, arthrities, slipped disc are common for people. Such pains appear due to life style and wrong postures. My clinic can diagnosis root cause of pain in detail through one on one consulting and plans for treatment for optimum result.

Pathology of pain

Pain can be due to the following Full conditions:

Invasion of exterior pathogenic factors

            -Interior Cold or Heat

            -Stagnation of Qi or Blood

            -Retention of food

            -Obstruction by Phlegm

Above conditions cause an obstruction to the circulation of Qi in the channels and therefore pain.

Pain can also be due to the following Empty conditions:

-deficiency of Qi and Blood

-consumption of Body Fluids from Yin deficiency

These conditions cause malnourishment of the channels and hence pain. This is an Empty type of pain and would tend to be duller than the previous type.

Pain Management by Acupuncture

Acupuncture treatment can reduce pain on your musculoskeletal pain such as neck, shoulder, arms, wrists, upper and lower back, and leg pain. Also acupuncture treatment can help reducing headaches,  arthritis related pain such as carpal tunnel syndrome, finger pain, knee pain etc.

Most people have experienced back pain sometime in their life. The causes of back pain are numerous; some are self-inflicted due to a lifetime of bad habits. Other back pain caused by accidents, muscle strains, and sports injuries. Although the causes may be different, most often they share the same symptoms such as ▲Persistent aching or stiffness anywhere along your spine, from the base of the neck to the hips ▲Sharp, localized pain in the neck, upper back, or lower back ▲Back pain that radiates from the low back to the buttock, down the back of the thigh, and into the calf and toes. If proper treatment is not performed, dysuresia and dyschezia could be followed.

Neck and Shoulder Pain: Neck pain can occur anywhere in your neck, from the bottom of your head to the top of your shoulders. Usually pain starts with movement of  neck especially related to extensor muscle. It can spread to your upper back or arms. It may limit range of motion of neck and/or shoulder joints.

Frozen Shoulder: Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) is stiffness, pain, and limited range of movement in your shoulder that may follow an injury. The tissues around the joint stiffen, scar tissue forms, and shoulder movements become difficult and painful.

Headaches: Physical and emotional stress caused tension on muscle. Contracted muscle disturbs blood circulation and bothers blood supply to the brain. Lesser blood supply causes the headache.

Upper and Lower Back Pain: Most people have experienced back pain sometime in their life. The causes of back pain are numerous; some are self-inflicted due to a lifetime of bad habits. Or back pain caused by accidents, muscle strains, and sports injuries. Although the causes may be different, most often they share the same symptoms such as
